Well put Charles, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I get beat down by these sites that have 5 offers before you get to the product. I also get fed up with the sites that have 5 exit sells, wait, wait, wait, before you go! Just let me out. If I don’t want to buy your product and you hit me with 5 offers trying to leave, the chances of me coming back are slim.

I have a lot of gurus who email me over and over again about their “close friends” hottest new product that I can’t miss and you know what? I rarely open them anymore, I delete most of them immediately and have unsubscribed from many of them.

Another thing is the pre-launch, I’m so tired of pre-launches I could PUKE!!!

    Excellent observation, thanks!

Charles, very informative. Gave me some things to think about. I’ve been contemplating ad swapping, but never pulled the trigger. Nice to get another perspective.

You are 101% correct! I stopped opening the emails of certain marketers as everything they send (daily) is nothing but crap.

Yes, I DID open your email. Why? It has quality content, of course.

I’m glad you enjoy my content. I have to be truthful with you. It was very hard for me to do this case study because I never wanted to loose the trust of anyone on my list.

I hate 5 OTO’s, There is one marketer in particular; with at least 3 affiliates, who are promoting the same products, with the same opt-ins. At first it was OK, but now; it is time to turn them off. It is almost like SPAM. Yes, Charles, I agree with you. Thanks for pointing this out.

    Hey Charles,
You are absolutely right about those ad swaps. Nothing makes me unsubscribe faster than having my email address given to the next Joe Blow with a list and free gift. I don’t care how valuable they “think” their gift is.

Thanks for reminding folks and for doing the split test yourself. It saves a lot of us the time, trouble and expense.

    All the best,

    Hi Darlene

Some marketers don’t understand that the user experience is more important then almost anything if you are looking at long term profits. I want to make as much money as the next guy. But now my making my list mad.

Most of the time the so called free gift is JUNK or just PLR stuff that have been passed around so many times. Or even worse its something that will send you off in the wrong direction and waste your time.

Great blog! OTO’s are just like a bait and switch if it’s FREE for Christ’s sake give it FREE Noting pee’s me off more than “Oh, by te way…. for just X amount of $ I can show you really how to do it. And monthly costs that are being charged after a significant investment are bogus as well $27 for a monthly b/o is a joke

I’m grateful to be able to leave a comment on this subject. This is like a horse having a bur under it’s saddle. I agree with you. I receive a lot of emails and a surprising amount of them are of the same nature. Many offer something free up front, but turn the tables on you after they have made their pitch. ” Oh, by the way, in order to get this great free item, you must buy this other thing, so it will all make sense and you’ll triple your income.” The lies and distortions just go on and on.
I value your commitment on this subject and your honesty. You are very special and because I realize that, I look forward to your emails. Thank you.

    Hi Charles

What a great case study. I hate it when my email is swamped with various offers that turn out to be rubbish. When I give you my email address I am saying to you I am trusting you enough to send me something useful. When I get rubbish or I get passed around from marketer to marketer like trash it insults me and it makes me angry. I don’t forget who you are and I promise you I will not take up any offer from you or sign up for any one of your courses no matter how good it is. When you put your name to a bad product it’s game over too. Thanks Charles this was a revealing video and lesson too.

Hi Charles – I believe that You are as usual being very honest with us here. I thank You for that and in return I would like to be honest with You.

The whole concept of adswaps is being taught as a method of growing your lists. I have just started doing One or Two but I refuse to take part in any more than One adswap per Week and I do vet them. I have also turned many down due to the over the top OTO problem.

I have tried give-aways in the past but I found that the quality of subscriber information was in general very poor.

So please tell us Charles, how do You recommend that a person starting out should build their lists ?

Many thanks and kindest regards – Graham.

    Hi Charles,
Great content once again, just as I have become
accustomed with your video content presentations.

I haven’t yet started building a list, and after viewing todays video, Boy am I pleased about that, cause I would have for
sure beaten a wrong path and gotten nowhere fast with subscribers already burned out by worthless free offers
that comes with virtually each email these days.

You’ve unearthed something really valuable here Charles,
So please keep it running, Don’t hang up on us now!

    Kind Regards R.V. W.

    Couldn’t agree more
I get swamped with emails every day
Like a fool I read a lot of them (what a waste of time)
Today I’m going to spend an hour unsubscribing from them
all except yours and one other which sends me good information and not too often.
I’m pretty new to all this and have been wasting too much of my time but not any more
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Charles,
I am very glad that someone brought this subject up.
I am on a few email lists and get sick and tired of getting these types of emails.

Most go in the trash AFTER I un-subscribe from them.

I bought 2 of your coaching courses and they have really helped.

I go back to them and learn more each time.

    Thank You for the help.

Sometimes that’s free reports from others. But the real key is the videos were I just do it from the front porch. That is pure real content that I love to share.

    Hi cahrles,

I agree 100%. I am on several mailing lists and I get off the ones that are constantly bombrding me with offers free or otherwise. I opt in and I am on somebody elses mailing list. next thing you know, I am getting hundreds of emails a say. NO THANKS!! I stay with the ones that email me occassionally with free stuff and good offers.

I also hate when somebodt has the next new thing and you read the sales page and it sounds like it is good. You click on it and buy it to try it out, and once you buy you get sent to an oto that says, “the system you bought will mkake you some money, but if you really want to succeed, you need this to go with it”. well, bullshit, they say in their sales letter that the product is like the second coming of Christ for money making, but now you spent 77 dollars on it but you need to spend another 67 or whayever to make it real successful. I return those immediately and erase them from my e-mails and never look at their crap again.

    I HATE THE OTOS.

    Thanks,

    Hi Charles,

I’ve been on your list a while now and know roughly what to expect every time I get an email from you … you’re doing it right otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this comment right now ! LOL

I tend to agree with your video content above in principle but from a “customer” perspective I don’t mind getting the occasional email that is the result of an obvious AdSwap deal and newbies have to start somewhere and this method is tried and tested to build a list so why not … as long as it’s not overdone ?

BUT some do take it to extreme and that’s when I get fed up and just ignore most of the later emails.

I have two marketers currently sending out the EXACT same offer with the SAME headline usually at some point on the same day ….SO funny and they both get ignored !

I also hate the ones that come back with Dave Guindon’s software box telling me to “WAIT … don’t go just yet … click on the cancel button” and when I do (out of curiosity the first time) it comes back aagain and again and again …..

(Sorry Dave, nothing wrong with your software and I’m a fan but some are abusing it !)

I had an “fantastic” offer pitched to me that started at a ‘crossed out’ $197 so this left it as this great offer TODAY at only $97 …. so far so good.

Having checked it out it wasn’t for me so I closed out to be hit with the “WAIT … click cancel etc” so I kept clicking out and managed to run it all the way down to $17 … does anybody fall for this !?

Have a nice day and keep on keepin’ on !

    Charles,

Thanks for the video, good to see someone else views things in the same perspective. If I am going to giveaway a book then I just give it away. Sometimes I have a oto but just one because I know when I run into five or six that really irritates me.

I wont do ad swaps at all, everything that people have to offer is the same crap thats out there and I probably have a copy on my hard drive any way.

I am probably not doing it right but I know if I get six emails in the same day from the same marketer, I unsubscribe, offer something free and then there is really a charge, I unsubscribe. I refuse to do this to the small list I have. I may not be making much and my list may not be thousands but I know I treat my list with respect and give quality content.

Well thats my little rant, but Charles I definitely agree with you.

    Have a great one.

    Thanks Charles…

That’s exactly why I unsubscribed to most of the marketers. Most marketers don’t understand that sending a bunch of email too much is a matter of ruing his relationship – it’s totaling a spam.

    Hi Charles,
    You are absoultely correct.
As a newbie looking for simple easy ways to make money fast – the last thing I need is more confusion.
Yes the free reports are a dime a dozens, BUT they all seem to leave out important info that you can get if you buy the stuff inside the reports.
Free Content is a dime a dozen – but GOOD Free content is what get you where You are – at the top!
    Well done, thanks.

A good thing is that most of the articles or programs are just incarnations of other like type programs. And if you are reading the sales material that this sent, it is easy enough to see the similar features / benefits.
I am learning to turn a deaf ear to all of the chatter. I get emails from less than 8 Internet marketer currently and that is to many.
By the way I think that you were one of the first people who taught me to cut back on the number of incoming emails. To eliminate Info Over Load!!

    So true, Charles….
I used to be subscribed to literally every Guru, marketer and ‘crackpot’ out there. I got so sick of all the ‘junk’ and copy-cat emails that I went on a clear-out campaign. After blitzing my email subscriptions I was left with just 3 names on my list (needless to say, you were one of the three). I urge everyone to purge their subscription lists and get rid of the JUNK!

    Hi,
I do get e-mails from so many marketers and yes some of it sucks, as you really feel bad being taken for a ride. And yet
on the flip side there are many who genuinely teach you
and offer you good content. What really gets me sometimes is when I am asked to feed in my e-mail id again and don’t get
the promised free report…..instead i’m told to buy some system or the other.
But on the whole I am trusting by nature and so don’t get too many bad e-mails. I try to see the good in most things and leave it at that.
And I think yr video above says it just the way it is.

    Hi there –
it is really refreshing to hear you talk like this. I have signed up for a number of those “free” reports and I really wished I hadn’t – I get more than 400 emails today from roughly 50 different internet marketers – I can always tell when there is a product launch because I get the identical emails from these guys all with the same subject line, and content

    - out of the 400 odd emails I do get I only open maybe 10 of them – they have to be unique, they have to include content that is useful to me and then, and only then will I click on a link and watch a video like this one.

I think internet marketers need to understand that pushing a sale at every opportunity such as the exit popups (sometimes 3 or 4 of them) and the three stage “OTO” which starts off at $97 and you can end up getting it for $27 if you click through long enough are just plain annoying and like other people commenting here I have had enough of it and I don’t even bother to open the emails.

I do think that a lot of marketers got hung up on the idea that the number of people on their lists equated to a dollar figure per month and they just forgot that they were supposed to give value for that dollar amount. What is getting worse is now people are sending you to a squeeze page that you have to opt in to just to view their SALES page – theres no value there for the reader at all – You can guarantee I won’t be opening that marketers emails again no matter what he was selling me

    - so maybe people should do like you say and give value, and be yourself and build a relationship with your list that is unique and gives value to all concerned.
Yours are emails I do open – for that very reason
    Best wishes
    lisa

Your so right, this is what really gets my back up. Another problem I’ve noticed with people who send affiliate content every day is I have to give my email to the person their recommending. I wouldn’t normally have a problem with this but when people are swamping your inbox every day with affiliates it gets to the point where you have about six or seven different emails from different people all offering the same product. So annoying.

    Hey Charles,

I just met you from an email adswap the other day and I liked your content. You were selling a $7 coaching course & I didn’t buy it. What I did like is what seem to be your honesty in the video.

So this morning I Googled your name and started looking around to see what I could find about you, because honestly I had never heard of you before now.

Yes, I’m on tons of lists and to be honest this Adswap thing is driving me crazy. You really just get spammed or your right Whored out to other peoples lists. I am tired of it and looks like allot of other people are as well.

I just started opting out of them all because it’s just clutter on my computer.

I’m a frustrated marketing trying to keep my head above water and not doing very well. I’m not even sure that there is real money to be made online. Prove me wrong I guess but I’m at my ends to it all.

    Keep up the good work….

    Hello Charles,

Your are right. I have done the opt-in and find the offer is for someone else. I quickly unsubscribe off their list. the trust is gone. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. There maybe some who don’t care whose list they are on. I think for the rest of us, we are sick and tired of it.
