What ever happened to INTEGRITY in internet marketing?
Posted on 03. Feb, 2009 by Charles in Internet Marketing
I am NOT going to try to recommend anything or
sell you on a new product or program today.
What I have for you is something that I brought
home from Karate class and it touched me in such
a way that I thought that you my loyal readers would
appreciate it as much as I did.
Every month the Karate School picks a word for their
students to learn and put to good use.
This might sound like a crazy thing for me to write
about today, however, even though we know this word
and understand it, I thought the following quotes were
worth sharing.
The Word of the month is INTEGRITY
“Real Integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that
nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.”
Oprah Winfrey — In Good Housekeeping
“I never had a policy; I have just tried to do my very
best each and every day.” Abraham Lincoln
“Try not to become a man of success but rather try
to become a man of value.” Albert Einstein
I know the above words do not have anything to do
with search engine optimization and developing
traffic.
Yet, at the same time, they are very important in
your efforts in marketing.
As a marketer, you have a real responsibility to
share products and promotions that can solve a need
for others.
If in turn you offer less than stellar products or offer them
at a price that does not meet the test of fairness, you
actually can hurt your good reputation.
We start out with a good name. It is something that
should be guarded with every ounce of might in your soul.
Once something happens that could be questioned as
unfair or immoral or unethical, it can be very hard to restore
your integrity in the eyes of the public, in this case your
buyers.
This is one of the reasons that I offer the guarantees on
my products and programs that I do. I really do not want
to entice any one to purchase something that they are
unhappy with or feel they can not use.
I encourage each and every one of you, regardless of
where you are in your internet career to live by those words
above and you will never have to worry about the income
coming in.
Thanks for letting me share this with you today, I hope
you found it to be as worthwhile as I did.
Talk Soon,
Charles Kirkland

Hey there,
Great realization, thanks for sharing it. Now, there’s an untapped Niche. A ‘Personal Integrity Pack’ for the masses. But, who would buy it? Why would an unethical and dishonest person want to be true and straight?
When you’ve got the answer to that, you’ve got a great product idea that’s ready to EXPLODE!!!

Beautifully said! At last, someone with the right priority! A breath of fresh air in a medium where greed and deception rule.
Hope everyone realizes that a man is only as good as his word – and once that trust is lost, it is virtually impossible to regain it.

Nicely put! although very few of us uphold those traditions anymore bu there are those of us out htere that still promote these values! it still requires a certain amount of capacity to truly understand and accept that which we teach.Good luck in your karate and remember always to persevere! even with those that know less than you do!

Hi Charles,
I could not agree more, some of the rubbish floating on the net is shocking to say the least, it is very daunting for someone who is trying to learn the marketing skills required to succeed, to work out what is useful and what is rubbish.
Thanks for the emphasis on the point of integrity, one of my favourite quotes was made by another great american
J.F Kennedy
“Integrity is the fuel of success, and the cornerstone of
justification, is there anything more precious?”

Charles,
Integrity is consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcome. The funny things is that online 85% of the big marketers, gurus and the such don’t live up to the definition. I have come to realize that as soon as a big wig marketer sends out their latest launch, product or JV offers to their super affiliates “INTEGRITY” goes right out the window and the proof is in our email in-boxes several times a week.
You know what I’m talking about? How many offers have you received this week alone from different marketer that are supposed to be looking out for the interests of those subscribed to their lists or so they say that are pushing the exact same new product and trying to beat each other out by supplying big bonus packages to get us to purchase.
Those that believe in “INTEGRITY” are the one’s that don’t jump on the “I want to sell as much as I can so I can win a contest” however once again look at your in-boxes and I am sure that there are very few marketers that you follow that isn’t part of the “buy through me mentality”.
I did that several months ago when I found out that I was following some 200 different marketers and I couldn’t understand why my inbox was always tell me I am approaching my inbox capacity when I didn’t log in for 3 days.
Since then neither my inbox nor I get bombarded by marketers just out to make money. Now it’s a peaceful place where I can go and listen to the remaining 20+ marketers that have taken the time to properly educate me over the years because they believe in “INTEGRITY”.

Charles…
Thanks for inviting me to your blog… it looks very neat and nice… WOW. I have a few blogs out there along with a lot of other puppy’s running around. This is NOT good and now I am being ran over and not by traffic.
5 years ago, I became ill with Lyme Disease and lost my ability to be on the net… therefore, I lost a lot of what I knew and didn’t see the train load coming to dump ALL the new products on me..
In February, I was watching the news and one of the topics was on how Facebook was the most popular site on the Internet!
FACEBOOK? I had to go on the computer and take a look at whose face was so popular on the book that everyone was on…. grrrrrrr duhhhhh
MYSPACE? I wanted to find me a Space, too….. LOL
That one I did, and making a name too, Branded… another word I had to learn over the past months…so much I had to learn and so much look so good and of course I had to have this and that, until, now I have so many of this and that and found myself buying them over, OMGGGGG.
INTEGRITY? With me floored. Viewing both time periods… it was pretty much the same on the net, just a different format and products…before I went off the eBooks were being introduced and this was new acceptance, sort of like the black and white TV to color.
It seems to be the rush of tech leadership of who’s bringing the best out…yet, the leaders that I have gotten to know are NOT for the most part keeping things to them selves, but rather, are sharing the goods.
Now, I have gotten smart here, those goods are becoming like our money (?). The Videos and audio is on the rise, along with blogs and social networks, so the money making is within.
I’ve been working on a program and a Residual Payment.. which this part hasn’t changed over the years, just took on different formats and I see what scares ones from the earlier times (2000) to what is going on now..
I hoping to get help to do the things I have planned out. I am going to start College.. taking advantage of the Presidents grant for Mothers to go back to school and I will be learning computer software and programming, graphs.
Charles, did I forget to mention that I’m writer?

Thanks for the e-mail…Integrity is so important these days in marketing..if you want to be successful you have to establish a good working relationship with your customers..by doing so you will not only make money on the front end but also on the backend….I average around 40 e-mails a day and you should see some of the junk i get promoting offers that you know will never work…people are just looking for that “Majic Pill” thats going to make them 10,000 per week….but you know what…with the new FTC rule alot of those scammers who give you false figures and facts will all be leaving soon….FTC new rule…If you making a profit by someone clicking on a link that you provided that must be disclosed…that applies to blogs, e-mail , articles…pretty much everything….you are more than welcome to post a reply on my new blog…although its not completed yet it clearly defines the new FTC rule…..Happy Thanksgiving………Mike Seals

Great Concept. What would have been laughed at 50 years ago to have special training is now an unknown trait. How to teach Character was assumed before, now it is something beyond many peoples grasp. If we even ourselves claim to have Integrity we are losing the ability to teach the next generation. Character is caught more than taught and we see just the opposite in some of our Politicians, Athletes and business people. It not “wrong” unless your caught is becoming more and more typical. I don’t have a system or product in a package but I have found a company with great resources for both schools and corporations. They have a lot of free resources.

hiya charles, great words unfortunately there are so many people out in the big wide world who have one goal and one goal only and that is themselves, selfish, nasty, horrible, dishonest it makes life a real struggle when idiots for example, youve just bought a car,not a brand new one but one you like and worked hard to get the money together to buy and an idiot who is green with envy for some stupid reason comes along and puts a scratch in it along the whole length of it,there are far too many idiots out there and good luck to good ones, they deserve a lot more than most of them will ever get.ive had my rant now lol. john

Charles, I know we need Integrity in the market field. I just wish we could get it in Washington as well. We’ve seemed
to have lost that words meaning in our country.
I’m 64 and was brought up to stand up and be proud of this country and what it stands for. And if I know anything at all is that our leaders have brought our nation to shame because they have no integrity . Thanks for the e-mail.

With the fierce competition and all the “freebies” it seems that in the rush all values get slaughtered. After so many freebies the punters realize that they are very expensive freebies. Firstly they rob you of your time and are 99.99% of the time complete rubbish. To add salt to the injury they are immediately followed by great $1 offers, which then become monthly $47 subscription sites. I don’t know what the answer is but it is now extremely hard to tell the scammers from the real ones.

Charles,
We’ve been online since about ‘93 and way back then we had managed to get a website up. We thought it was great with all the little animated GIF’s popping up all over the place for no reason ! LOL
No wonder we didn’t actually get anywhere with it.
Anyhow, fast forward with life and a growing family and all the other stuff that gets in the way and here we are now in our mid fifties trying to play catch up with an era that has whizzed by in the blink of an eye leaving us to wonder in amazement at what it has become … wildly diifferent and almost unrecognisable !
What the frak ?!
So we are despeately trying to actually get going again and this last few months we must have signed up to hundreds of lists and have probably been on yours a while too but only TODAY did we stumble across your blog here and have since spent the last HOUR or two in total immersion !
Previous to getting here we too had been bombarded endlessly with the latest “must have” launch offering and have to admit also that we are in mega overload and total paralysis and getting nowhere fast right now so you do seem to provide some genuine clarity which we would be foolish NOT to follow ?
Prior to this moment it was a great relief to come across a guy who also blew away all the hype and we have unreservedly been promoting his site (we joined as full members also) and he follows the above premise of integrity to the letter.
It seems from what you say that you are of a similar mind so now that is TWO people in this internet jungle we have discovered that we will follow to the end.
We are so pleased to have found your site and hope we can make some money soon but just following your lead will at least allow us to proceed along a true path and help others as we too make progress

Is this not a trate this the older generation have tried to
instill into the younger ones, the parents of todays pre-teen and teenage children do, in the main they do not feel that they have any duty to spell it out to their children.

Charles, I absolutely agree with your beliefs and have suffered in the past when the almighty dollar managed to outweigh my core beliefs. I have a small business that only recently has moved entirely online. We do have a few sites that are truly profitable, however I continue to not allow them to be linked in anyway to our core business. We strive to give an honest to goodness assessment of products and/or services that someone on our staff has first hand experience with. I will not promote or be an affiliate of any product or service that has not been found to be of true quality and fair value. My wife and I often feel like parents scolding their children in dealing with our younger staff members but we manage to all maintain a relaxed and often fun working environment . I feel truly blessed by having like minded marketers such as yourself having more of a presence in today’s IM world.
Wishing you and yours all the best,
Marc

Charles,
Always a pleasure to get and read your emails. As a fellow Southerner, my heart and mind always resonates with what you say! I have a lot to learn from you, and I am doing my best to soak it up. Particularly enjoyed your freebie on the snowy day post about how to get in the flow of traffic. Still trying to work a successful campaign with that concept, would welcome any other ideas you have to offer there! : )
Thanks always, Kristie

G’Day there Charles,
It’s a timely reminder for all those people on the internet trying to sell useless plans, programs and information or teaching products and get rich quick shemes that are absolutely useless. For us less lesser mortals trying to hit the band wagon a bit late by setting up a simple blog with a few adsense ads and the odd clickbank product, integrity is probably the most important personal trait we should hold on to.

Thanks for trying to define it. Integrity can also be felt and perceived as we go on reading and taking on whatever comes through the internet. We can only weed out the ones we are not comfortable with and deal only with those we believe also know the word and lives by “integrity”.

I really enjoy this topic!Think about it,this is something we all need to pass it down as well as live it.Think about the old days when there really wasnt $$,maybe some gold dust or nuggets. The barter system was employed and your word was gold or somebody got tarred and feathered.Thats funny there because by the time you picked out the feathers and tar and everything, you definitly didnt forget about it.You thought twice before you ever did it again. As far as the net goes ,Its very frustrating,You have to invest in yourself and knowledge, you need to figure out your gameplan. If your real green, yourlaerning curve may be lengthy and hard to overcome. The “GURU” mentality is a joke. Its a lot of info thats been rehashed and maybe a little bit thats reworded and is just trying to sell you the same thing that you probably already bought. Its not right but its going on.The other thing is the 1 special but theres a catch or upsell.Ive been lucky eneough to run across some very good sites that have a lot of integrity.but not a lot of em.anyway sorry so long !Good luck everybody!!

Hi Charles,
Got your e-mail today and I must say I’m intrigued. I haven’t heard from you before, but since I’m looking everywhere I can to replace my lost income, I assume you got my email from someones list. I have been a martial artist most of my life and yes, integrity is at the top of my list when it comes to personal honor. I am sorry to say that I haven’t found this to be true so far, in my search to change my circumstances.without fail, all the sites I’ve found to date claim to want to help, but all they really want is my money, and many of them have gotten it, to my dismay.( call me naive) At present, my total monthly income is only $280 , and I am desperately looking for a way to increase it. Is there any real help out there for someone in my position. Can you really point me in the direction of anyone with integrity ? Although I am discouraged and frustrated, my greatest hope lies in the fact that I am seriously determined!
